Baseball Loses To TCU 10-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - TCU (23-15, 10-5 Conference USA) used 10 runs on 13 hits to defeat UAB 10-2 in Conference USA baseball action Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field. Sunday's win gave the Horned Frogs a three-game series sweep of UAB.
TCU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run homer to left field by third baseman Mike Settle.
The Horned Frogs added two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a triple to left by Settle that scored shortstop Shaff Elkouri and left fielder Chris Meeks.
TCU went up 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning when catcher Justin Hatcher doubled to right center field, scoring second baseman Will Lewis and designated hitter Chris Neuman.
UAB got a run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a double to left field by first baseman Daniel Hill that scored right fielder Kyle Leon.
The Horned Frogs added four insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Settle began the scoring for TCU, picking up his sixth RBI of the day on a double to left center field that scored Elkouri and center fielder Terry Trofholz. Right fielder Jake Duncan followed with a two-run homer to right field.
UAB added one run in the bottom of the ninth when center fielder Sam Clark scored on a wild pitch by Ryan Weems.
Horned Frog starter Robbie Findlay (2-1) picked up the win for TCU after throwing five shut-out innings and allowing five hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts.
Blazer starter Scott Gibson (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season in eight appearances after working four innings and allowing four runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three. Rusty McIntyre, Cody Cillo, Kevin Brannon, Allen West and Jeff Brown all saw action out of the Blazer bullpen.
UAB (21-13, 6-8 C-USA) next travels to Auburn (29-8, 11-4 Southeastern Conference) to face the fifth-ranked Tigers Tuesday at 6 p.m.
