Blazer Tennis Faces Stiff Competition This Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's and women's tennis teams both face tough competition this week, as the men's team heads to the HEB Collegiate in Corpus Christi, Texas and the women's team hosts Samford and Eastern Michigan.
The UAB women's tennis team (5-3, 2-1) hosts "Blazer Day" on Thursday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at George Ward Park, when it faces Samford. All Blazer fans are encouraged to come out and show their support for UAB tennis. On Friday, March 6, the Blazers host Eastern Michigan at noon at Brook Highland Racquet Club.
On March 7-9, UAB men's tennis team will participate in the 2003 HEB Collegiate in Corpus Christi, Texas. The 11 teams participating in the event are broken up into four groups that play a round-robin first round. Winners of each group will then be placed into a four-team draw, as will the second and third place teams to determine the tournament placewinners. UAB is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will be grouped with Wichita State and Northern Illinois. On March 7, the Blazers will take on Wichita State at 8:30 a.m. before facing NIU at 2 p.m. Other teams participating in the event are 56th-ranked Texas Tech, No. 71 Colorado, UNLV, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT-Arlington, University of New Orleans, Loyola-Marymount, and Louisiana-Lafayette.
