Baseball Team Ranked 31st In Baseball Writers Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team (21-6, 6-2 Conference USA) returned to the national rankings this week at No. 31 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division I poll. The Blazers retook their previous poll position, as the team ranked 31st in the poll released March 17 and March 3.
UAB defeated Conference USA rival Memphis 2-1 Sunday at Young Memorial Field to complete a three-game sweep of the Tigers. The Blazers are second in the Conference USA standings, currently own the most wins in C-USA and hold the top winning percentage (.778) in the league. UAB is outscoring its opponents 202-119 and batting .307 (4th in C-USA) as a team. The Blazer pitching staff leads Conference USA in opposing batting average (.225) and ranks second in ERA (3.23).
UAB will put its national ranking on the line Tuesday when it travels to Starkville, Miss. to face fifth-ranked Mississippi State (22-3-1, 8-1 Southeastern Conference) at 6:30 p.m.
UAB then travels to Houston for a three-game C-USA series with the Cougars, beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
