BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team will play its home game this coming season against the University of Alabama at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, home of the Class-AA Birmingham Barons, it was announced Wednesday. The Blazers will face the Crimson Tide Wednesday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
"We are very excited to be able to host the University of Alabama at the Met," said UAB head coach Larry Giangrosso. "We feel like it gives us a great atmosphere to play college baseball. It also gives us a chance to accommodate a large crowd that would like to see a Conference USA team and an SEC team play. We feel like we can accommodate a lot of college baseball fans by playing at the Met."
The Blazers own a 2-2 record against the Crimson Tide at the Hoover Met, dating back to the 1989 season. The last meeting between the two schools at the Met was April 9, 1997, a 10-2 UAB win.
UAB opens the season Feb. 17 at Alabama State at 1 p.m. The Blazers then return home for a three-game series against Murray State Feb. 20-22 at Young Memorial Field.
