STOCKTON, Calif. - The UAB volleyball team (14-19) fell to Pacific 30-17, 30-28, 30-27 in first round play of the Banker's Classic hosted at the Spanos Center on the campus of the University of the Pacific.
Sophomore outside hitter Breanne Swenson had 17 points on 12 kills and five service aces to lead UAB. Senior outside hitter Martina Shields posted her 15th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs to go along with 11.5 points and freshman setter Bilun Gunal recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 31 assists and 11 digs for the Blazers. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Carnohan added 10 points on 10 kills for UAB.
Pacific (16-13) was led by senior middle blocker Jennifer Joines who had a match-leading 22 points on a match-high 15 kills to go along with five service aces and a .444 hitting percentage. Junior setter Hayley Anderson added 34 assists for the Tigers.
UAB will face Pittsburgh (24-5) in the consolation match of the Banker's Classic Saturday at 5 p.m. (PT). Pacific will meet Oregon State (16-15) in the championship match at 7 p.m. (PT).
