BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team worked out for approximately two hours and 20 minutes Tuesday in full pads as the team began making preparations for Saturday's Conference USA matchup against Houston. The meeting could have possible bowl ramifications as the Blazers come into the game needing a win to become bowl eligible while Houston enters the contest with a 6-5 record.
As the team began to put in a game plan for Houston, UAB head coach Watson Brown was pleased with the day's efforts.
"It was a good day of practice," said Brown. "Tuesday is the first day to look at the team we are playing and I thought things went pretty well."
Junior long snapper John Newton was injured during the USF game last Saturday and Brown said the team will try and fill in the same way it did in Saturday's 22-19 win over the Bulls.
"It's no different than last week," said Brown. "We will just work with what we worked in the game with and give those guys a chance to get a little better."
Saturday's kickoff between UAB (5-6, 4-3 C-USA) and Houston (6-5, 3-4 C-USA) is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game is being televised live by Charter/Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) and can also be heard live locally on WYDE-FM 101.1.
