BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB football team practiced for a little more than two hours on Thursday as the Blazers underwent their final workout prior to Saturday's Conference USA matchup against the USF Bulls.
Both teams need a victory to keep their bowl-game hopes alive on Saturday. UAB sits at 4-6 on the season and needs to win its last two games, while the Bulls, at 6-4, need two more wins over Division I-A programs to become eligible.
"South Florida is in the same situation that we are in," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "Neither team can lose if they want to go to a bowl game, so one of us will get eliminated on Saturday. We both want to get to the last game of the season with the opportunity to make it to a bowl game. There is a lot at stake on Saturday, for us and for South Florida."
UAB will compete in its sixth road game of the 2003 season on Saturday and its first game away from home since a narrow 16-13 loss against the fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The Blazers own a 2-3 record in road contests this season, with two of the losses coming by a mere three points.
The Blazers and Bulls will meet up on Saturday at 6 p.m. (CST) at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., and the game will be televised locally on Charter/Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). Saturday's contest has also been picked up as part of this weekend's ESPN Plus package.
