Lady Blazers Travel To Face No. 17 Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB women's basketball team (4-8) will travel to Starkville, Miss., to take on 17th-ranked Mississippi State (10-2) on Monday, January 6, at 7 p.m. in Humphrey Coliseum. The Lady Bulldogs are 4-0 at home this season.
This is the 23rd meeting between UAB and Mississippi State. The Lady Blazers have won four straight meetings tying the series at 11 wins each. Most recently, UAB defeated Mississippi State 76-56 on November 29, 2001 in Bartow Arena. UAB's Natasha Thomas scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds in 30 minutes of play.
The Lady Blazers are coming off a 76-64 loss to Austin Peay on Friday night in Bartow Arena. Senior Michelle Smith recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the loss. Junior Natasha Thomas leads UAB with 17.0 points per contest and 9.1 rebounds per game this season.
Mississippi State picked up its 10th win of the season with a 78-64 win over the Lady Musketeers of Xavier Thursday night in Humphrey Coliseum. Tan White led MSU over the Lady Musketeers with 23 points on 10-of-21 shooting. Senior forward LaToya Thomas leads the team in points and rebounds this season, averaging 24.3 ppg and 7.9 rpg.
