Women's Basketball To Face First C-USA Road Challenges

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB women's basketball team (5-9, 1-0) faces its first Conference USA road trip this weekend, traveling to Chicago to face No. 25 DePaul (12-4, 1-0) on Friday and to Milwaukee to take on Marquette (8-5, 0-1) on Sunday.
UAB versus DePaul will be available on the internet at www.depaulbluedemons.com. Jeff Friedman will provide play-by-play. On Sunday, the game will be televised by the C-USA TV Network. The game can be seen on Comcast Charter Sports Southeast on tape delay starting at 1 p.m. (CT). Don Russell will be doing play-by-play, while Amy Prichard will be the color analyst. Meanwhile, Kent Sommerfeld and Kareeda Chones will call the game on Sunday on WISN 1130 AM and can be accessed at www.gomarquette.com.
The Lady Blazers are coming off a 73-71 victory over South Florida on January 12 in Bartow Arena. UAB was led by senior Michelle Smith, who scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Junior Natasha Thomas leads UAB with 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest.
DePaul is coming off a 76-57 loss to No. 5 Tennessee on Tuesday in Knoxville. The loss dropped the Blue Demons to 12-4 overall. DePaul is being led this season by sophomore guard Jenni Dant who is averaging 13.8 ppg and freshman forward Khara Smith who is averaging 7.9 boards per contest. The Blue Demons are a perfect 7-0 at home this season.
Marquette has an 8-5 record after losing to DePaul, 62-57, on Sunday. The Golden Eagles are led by senior forward Rachel Klug who is averaging 16.2 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Sophomore guard Katie Alsdurf averages 11.8 points a game, while freshman guard Carolyn Kieger adds 11.4 per contest. Marquette is an impressive 5-1 at home, its lone loss coming to the Blue Demons.
