The UAB women's soccer team lost its second straight game this Sunday as the Blazers fell to the Auburn Tigers, 3-0. UAB was outshot by the Tigers, 17-7. Auburn was led by Jenny Zarzour who scored the second goal of the game and had an assist on the third.
"Somehow, I didn't prepare the team to play today," said Coach Paul Harbin. "We showed no enthusiasm, energy or emotion."
Auburn staked their claim early, scoring in the fourth minute of the game, as Jaqueline Schwarz scored her first goal of the season. In the 20th minute, the Tigers struck again, as Zarzour scored on an assist from Sarah Steinman. Auburn's third and final goal came in the second half at the 72 minute mark, when Jessie Allan netted her third goal of the season on an assist from Zarzour.
"We just didn't show up for this game," said Harbin. "We played an emotionally flat game today. I need to look at how we're preparing our team for each game."
Midfielder Jill Knottek and forward Tara Kidwell both had two shots each to lead the Blazers. Auburn's goalie, Megan Rivera, made five saves on the Blazers seven shots.
The Blazers next host the UAB Nike Classic, September 13th and 15th. On Friday, September 13th, UMass takes on Michigan at 5 p.m., followed by Georgia vs. UAB at 7 p.m. On Sunday, September 15th, the Bulldogs face the Wolverines at noon, followed by UMass vs. UAB at 2 p.m.
