Fayetteville, Ga.-----The Blazers defeated the 14th-ranked Clemson Tigers Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, Ga., 3-2, in their final exhibition game of the preseason.
Junior Tiger Lindsey Browne scored in the first 10 minutes of the contest to give the Tigers an early lead when she received a pass from senior Deliah Arrington.
The Blazers tied the game, 1-1, when junior Liz Bosscher (Louisville, Ky.) scored at the 31:14 mark of the first half off an assist by junior Jill Knottek (Midland, Texas) and sophomore Jenny Rynders (Marietta, Ga).
UAB took the lead in the 55th minute of play as senior Adrienne Suffridge (Columbia, S.C.) found the back of the net, 2-1. Sophomore Suzanna LaMotte (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Briana McCarty (Lawrenceville, Ga.) were credited with the assists.
Suffridge added to the Blazers lead when she scored an unassisted goal off of her own cornerkick, 3-1.
With five minutes left, Clemson added a goal when senior Heather Beem scored, 3-2.
"This game showed that we learned from our mistakes Friday night," said head coach Paul Harbin. "We stepped up a little bit this game."
"Lisa Nowoslawski played spectacular in goal," Harbin said. "She made two or three great saves which kept us in the match."
"We have the ability to put the ball in the back of the net this year," added Harbin.
The Blazers will take on Hawaii this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Hawaii Tournament.
