Baseball Defeated By Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saint Louis broke open the game with seven runs in the fifth inning
and six more in the sixth en route to a 16-2 victory over UAB in Conference USA baseball action Friday evening at
the Billiken Sports Center.
The loss was the tenth
straight for UAB (8-21, 1-9 Conference USA).
Saint Louis (12-14, 3-7
C-USA) led 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth.? A total of 13 batters came to the plate in the inning as the
Billikens scored seven times on five hits and took advantage of three UAB
errors. The big blow in the inning was a one-out bases-clearing double by first
baseman Corey Lawson, which drove
in three runs.
UAB starter Joe Yarbrough
(0-4) faced six batters in the
fifth, allowing five runs on four hits before giving way to reliever Tony
Falls.? Yarbrough worked four and 1/3 innings in the game, allowing
seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.
The Billikens picked up
where they left off in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring six more runs on
two hits and one UAB error.? Left
fielder Kurt Evans drove in two
runs with a single off Blazer reliever Kevin Brannon, and designated hitter Drew Eder had an RBI single off reliever Scottie Holden.
Designated hitter Kyle
Leon drove in both UAB runs in the
game, the first on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the third, and the second
with a two-out solo home run in the eighth.
Saint Louis starter Wes
Jaillet (2-3) worked a complete
game, holding UAB to two runs on three hits, with six walks and a career-high
12 strikeouts.
The teams will continue
their three-game C-USA series Saturday at 1:00 pm CST.
