Men's Tennis Defeats Birmingham-Southern 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB (6-1, 2-0 Conference USA) extended its winning streak to six matches, defeating Birmingham-Southern (5-3) 6-1 today in men?s tennis action at the BSC Tennis Complex. The Blazers took five of six singles matches and swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and claim the match victory.
Andre van der Merwe, Tobi Klein, Alex Jung, Ruben Zrihen and Sanzaruz Zaman each posted wins for UAB in the 1-6 singles spots.
Klein and Jung topped Paul Thoesen and Nils Hanchen 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, Zaman and Zrihen defeated Eric Baumgardner and John Matthews 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, and van der Merwe and Jean-Pierre De Lange outlasted Richard Turner and Kyle Weidman 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
The Blazers next travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to compete in the Corpus Christi Tournament Thursday-Saturday.
