McDowell Captures Medalist Honors at Seminole Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Firing identical rounds of 69, UAB's Graeme McDowell captured his fourth win of the season, earning medallist honors at the Seminole Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. McDowell fired a 10-under par 206 to lead the field by seven strokes over four players, including UAB senior Craig Gordon , in second place.
UAB finished in second place in the team competition, after sitting in a tie for sixth after round one. The Blazers finished with 295-294-291/ 880, five strokes behind North Carolina who placed first with 875. Rounding out the top-five teams were Duke (884), Tennessee (890) and College of Charleston (891).
Gordon finished the tournament tied for second place after carding rounds of 75-70-68 for a 3-under par 213 total. The finish was Gordon's highest of his career, falling behind a third place performance at the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate during the 2000-2001 season.
Finishing in a tie for 39th place, UAB sophomore Chad Goodwin finished with 213 after firing rounds of 75-79-75. Ryan Thomas carded rounds of 77-76-79 for a 229 total and a share of 52nd place. Blazer freshman Blake Mozley withdrew in the second round, but shot 83 in the final round.
UAB finished first among the field in par four scoring with a 4.11 average. McDowell led the field in three categories, including the par fours, fives, most birdies, and most eagles. He averaged 3.77 on the par fours, 4.42 on the par fives, and finished the tournament with 16 birdies and two eagles. Gordon finished second in the par three scoring with a 2.92 average.
Earlier this season, McDowell won top honors in the Topy Cup (Sept. 6-7), the Country Club of Louisiana (Oct. 29-30), and the Gator Invitational (Feb. 5-6). The junior from Portrush, Northern Ireland finished with 10-under 306, 12-under 204 and 10-under par 200, respectively. This is McDowell's seventh win of his career.
The Blazers are back in action this weekend as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to play in the Conrad Rehling Alabama Spring Invitational. Last year, McDowell won the tournament firing a 4-under par 212. The tournament will be played at the par 71 Capstone Club with 18 holes played each day beginning on Friday and concluding on Sunday.
