UAB scored three runs on no hits in a wild fourth inning and held on for a 3-1 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.
Kentucky (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-out, solo home run by designated hitter Gordon Tyler off UAB starter Ross Dobbins.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, UAB catcher Al Hecklinski drew a walk, third baseman Matt Gaulden was hit by Kentucky starter Cory Hahn, and both runners then moved up on a double steal. Hahn walked UAB designated hitter Justin Miller to load the bases, and was replaced by Mark Galvin.
Galvin then walked the next two hitters, shortstop Mark Garner and centerfielder Chad House, allowing two runs to score.? Garner scored from third on the next play, a groundout to first base by left fielder Mitch Jones, giving UAB a 3-1 lead.
Hahn retired Blazer second baseman Seth Rollin on a groundout to end the inning and went on to work 4 and 2/3 very solid innings, but the damage was done.
