BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team (4-4, 3-1) practiced in chilly weather in shorts and pads on Wednesday in preparation for its Conference USA tilt with Southern Miss (5-3, 3-1) this Saturday in Birmingham. The Blazers are coming off an open date, while Southern Miss last took the field on October 30th. Besides the weather, UAB had another obstacle to overcome during practice, the absence of light.
"We went over to turn our lights on and couldn't get the box open," said head coach Watson Brown. "Passing the football got a little rough the last 10 minutes. We hit each other as much as we did anything else. It was a good practice. It was a spirited practice and I think the kids are ready to play."
Both UAB and Southern Miss are still very much in the hunt for the conference title. The Blazers and Golden Eagles come into the game with one league loss each. TCU currently leads Conference USA with a record of 4-1. A loss on Saturday would damage one team's hopes for the conference crown.
UAB's kickoff with Southern Miss is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Legion Field. The game will be televised on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast and will also be a part of the ESPN Game Plan package.
