Women's Soccer Earns Four All-Conference USA Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The UAB women's soccer team had four players named to the Third-Team All-Conference USA squad it was announced at the league's annual awards banquet, Tuesday night at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. Forwards Tara Kidwell, Jill Knottek, and Adrienne Suffridge were named along with defender Briana McCarty. This is the first all-conference selection for Kidwell and Knottek, while Suffridge (third-team) and McCarty (second-team and all-freshman team) were both honored in 2001.
"I'm very happy for Tara, Jill, Adrienne and Briana," said head coach Paul Harbin. "We have quite a few deserving players on this team. I'm glad that our coaches have chosen to recognize at least four of them."
Knottek ended the season as UAB's leading scorer with 11 goals. In addition, she has six assists and 28 points on the year. Knottek also ended the season ranked in C-USA in many categories, finishing tied for 3rd in points, 3rd in goals and tied for 6th in assists.
Kidwell was the second-leading scorer for the Blazers this year, but led the team in points with 29. Kidwell scored 10 goals to go along with her nine assists. Kidwell also made her name known in the conference stats, ranking tied for 2nd in points, 4th in goals, tied for 4th in assists, and tied for 5th in game-winning goals.
Suffridge had seven goals, including three game-winners and four assists this season. She also became UAB's career leader in game-winning goals with 11. Suffridge finished the season ranked tied for 10th in the conference in goals and tied for fourth in game-winning goals in C-USA.
McCarty led the Blazers with 10 assists this season despite starting all 19 contests in defensive positions. McCarty tied for 8th nationally for assists in a single game (3) and is ranked 30th nationally in assists (10). She is currently tied for 3rd all-time at UAB in career assists (19) and is 3rd all-time in assists in a season (10). McCarty finished the season ranked in 2nd in C-USA in assists and 3rd in assists per game.
