Volleyball Team Tops Georgia State 3-2.

ATLANTA, Ga. - UAB (11-17, 3-6 Conference USA) defeated Georgia State (22-13, 10-1 Atlantic Sun) 40-42, 30-22, 30-26, 19-30, 15-12 in volleyball action Tuesday evening at GSU Sports Arena.
Four Blazers recorded double-doubles for the match, including junior outside hitter Martina Shields who posted her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with a match-high 20 kills and a match-high 25 digs, while hitting for .312 to lead UAB. Senior middle blocker Allison Magner posted 17 kills, hit for .344, had five total blocks and 13 digs for the Blazers. Junior middle blocker Karen Boyd added 15 kills, 12 digs and six total blocks, and freshman outside hitter/right side hitter Breanne Swenson recorded 13 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season for UAB. Senior setter Dina Katsoulis added 64 assists for the Blazers.
"This was an exceptional team performance tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "The team has really been competing well over the last week. We should be back at full strength for this weekend's matches, as our team is getting healthy. We look forward to making our final home stand in conference play this weekend."
Junior outside hitter Molly Sapp had 18 kills, six total blocks and hit for .308 to lead Georgia State. Sophomore setter April DeCoste added 53 assists for the Panthers.
UAB returns home to Bartow Arena Friday to face Conference USA rival Marquette (11-12, 2-8 C-USA) at 7:30 p.m.
