BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- Crystal McFadden, the 2002 New York Class A Player of the Year, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at UAB, according to an announcement Tuesday by Lady Blazer head coach Jeannie Milling.
McFadden, a 5-10 wing from Manhattan's Murry Bergtraum High School earned the state's top honor last season and was recently profiled in Slam magazine.
"Crystal is an exceptional perimeter talent," said Milling "She is a great athlete who handles the ball and is a tremendous slasher who scores from penetration or spot up. Crystal is a consistent three-point shooter who excels in the transition game and rebounds on both ends of the court."
As a junior, McFadden averaged 17.5 ppg, 12 rpg, 4 apg and 3 spg. Bergtraum is looking for its fourth straight PSAL title and second straight state championship. In McFadden's three seasons at the school, Bergtraum is 81-5. Bergtraum entered the national spotlight by defeating Christ the King for its first state Federation Class A title last season and a No. 22 national ranking.
McFadden is the second signee for UAB during the current signing period. Last week, Brittany Smith from Oyster Bay, New York, also signed with the Lady Blazers.
