TAMPA, Fla. - South Florida (23-5, 9-0 Conference USA) extended its winning streak to four matches and its Conference USA unbeaten streak to nine matches, as the Bulls topped UAB (10-16, 3-6 C-USA) 30-22, 30-14, 25-30, 30-14 in volleyball action Friday evening at The Corral.
Junior outside hitter Martina Shields posted her team-leading ninth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 11 digs to go along with four total blocks to lead UAB. Senior setter Dina Katsoulis recorded her fifth double-double of the year, as she tallied 38 assists and 12 digs for the Blazers. Junior middle blocker Karen Boyd added 12 kills and six digs, while hitting for .474 for UAB.
"At times we had good offensive production, but it was too inconsistent to beat the top team in the conference," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "The team competed well and we looked solid at times. South Florida is a very good team and certainly difficult to beat at home. We will try to carry over our solid play to tomorrow's match with Central Florida and into next weekend's final home matches against Marquette and DePaul."
South Florida was led by Michelle Collier who had 22 kills, 14 digs and four total blocks. Alessandra Domingos added 31 assists for the Bulls.
UAB next travels to Orlando, Fla. to take on Central Florida Saturday at 2 p.m. (ET).
