CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-----The UAB women's soccer team (4-7-1, 1-3-0 C-USA) lost to the Virginia Cavaliers (5-3-2, 0-1-0 ACC), 2-1 on Sunday at Kl?ckner Stadium, in another close loss.
UAB got on the board first in the 18th minute as Jill Knottek recovered a rebound and scored on a vacated net. The Blazers defense held Virginia until the 42nd minute when Noelle Keselica's give and go pass found Kelly Hammond, who put it past UAB goalie Lisa Nowoslawski to make the score 1-1. In the 68th minute, the Cavaliers broke the tie as Alyssa Benitez crossed it to Keselica for the game-winning goal.
The Blazers defense was on the their heels most of the match as Virginia racked up 18 shots, while allowing only four from UAB. The Cavaliers also had eight corner kicks, compared to one for UAB.
"We are doing some good things, but we need to find a way to win," said head coach Paul Harbin.
The Blazers next travel to Houston to battle the Cougars on October 11, at 7:00 p.m.
