FORT WORTH, Texas-----The UAB women's soccer team (6-7-1, 3-3-0 C-USA) won their second game in a row by defeating the Horned Frogs of TCU (2-9-4, 1-4-1), 5-3. The victory is the Blazers' second road game victory of the weekend.
UAB scored early and often en route to a 3-0 lead, as three of the Blazers' first four shot attempts found the back of the Frogs' goal. At the 6:44 mark, Jill Knottek scored on a centering pass from Liz Bosscher. Tara Kidwell, who had three assists and one goal, set up the play with a cross to the middle of the field. Knottek and Kidwell both assisted on Adrienne Suffridge's chip shot goal in the 13th minute to put the Blazers up 2-0. Knottek scored her second goal of the first half off a direct pass from Kidwell to give UAB a commanding, 3-0 lead.
TCU finally got on the board less than a minute later on a Cara Toulouse goal from Laura Greenberg. In the 29th minute, Suffridge netted her second goal of the game on Bosscher's assist, putting it past the Horned Frogs goalie, Ruth DeJong. TCU got on the board again at the 30:36 mark on an unassisted goal by Elizabeth Walsh to make the score 4-2 at half.
In the second half, UAB continued their scoring ways early. After racking up three assists, Kidwell headed the ball in after receiving a pass from Suffridge for the Blazers' fifth and final goal. In the 79th minute, TCU's Toulouse scored again to make the final score, 5-3.
The Blazers next host Tulane on October 18, at 7:00 p.m. at West Campus Field.
