Women's Basketball Drops A Heartbreaker To Tulane 60-58

NEW ORLEANS, La. - With the score tied at 58 apiece, Delacey Joseph hit a 17-foot jump shot with five seconds remaining to play to lift Tulane (15-4, 3-1 Conference USA) over UAB 60-58 in Conference USA women's basketball action at Fogelman Arena.
Chantell Thomas took the final shot for the Lady Blazers, narrowly missing an 18-footer at the buzzer.
UAB (8-9, 0-4 C-USA) shot 41.4 percent from the field and outrebounded Tulane 43-28.
The Green Wave were red hot from three-point range, shooting 40 percent for the game.
The Lady Blazers had four players in double figures, led by Natasha Thomas, who recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chantell Thomas and Michelle Smith each had 15 points apiece and Shaquetta Rhodes added 12 points.
Britt Themann led Tulane with 16 points, including a 5-9 shooting performance from three point range. Teana McKiver added 11 points for the Green Wave.
The Lady Blazers shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half and held Tulane to 34.6 percent shooting from the floor. Rhodes led UAB in the first half, shooting 80.0 percent from the field (4-5) with 10 points.
Tulane got out to an early 16-6 lead before UAB went on a 12-0 run to take the lead at 18-16 with 8:03 to play in the first half. The Lady Blazers led 29-23 at the half.
The second half saw a tightly contested battle with the largest lead by either team being a 10-point Lady Blazer advantage at 39-29 with 14:21 remaining to play in the game.
UAB next travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on C-USA rival Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast will televise the game.
