Men's Golf Opens Up Season In Japan

FUKUSHIMA, Japan - UAB men's golfer Graeme McDowell (Portrush, Northern Ireland) fired a 3-under par 69 as the Blazers rank third after one round of the Topy Cup. The event, which opens up the Blazers' season, is being held at the par-72 Tanagura Country Club.
The Topy Cup is a yearly event which features four American universities and seven Japanese universities.
Tohoku Fukushi University leads the team event with an 8-under par 280. UAB fired a 2-under par 286 and sits in third place.
Japanese golfer T. Kiyota leads the field with a 5-under par 67.
McDowell sits in a tie for third place at 69 and is joined by Blazer teammates Craig Gordon (Edinburgh, Scotland, 71), Drew Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.,72), Daniel Ozley (Birmingham, Ala., 74) and Bobby Spiller (Hampton Cove, Ala., 75).
The final round will be held on Wednesday.
