Ozley Advances, McDowell Falls At U.S. Amateur

ATLANTA, Ga. - Daniel Ozley (Birmingham, Ala.) of the UAB men's golf team defeated Steve Sokol (Oxford, Conn.) 1 up in the first round of the U.S. Amateur at the par-70, 7,091-yard East Lake Golf Club. Ozley will move on to the second round where he will face Scott Abbott (Dallas, Texas).
Graeme McDowell fell to Simon Nash (Australia) 3 and 2 and was eliminated from the event.
The championship continues through Sunday's 36-hole final, with the winner earning invitations to play in the next U.S. Open, Masters and British Open.
Rounds two and three of the event will be played on Thursday with coverage on ESPN from 1-4 p.m. (CST).
