HOUSTON - Austin Faught tossed a complete-game one-hitter to lead Houston to a 9-0 Conference USA baseball victory over UAB here Saturday afternoon at Cougar Field.
The Blazers (17-14 overall, 3-8 in C-USA) got shutout for the second straight contest - the first time since 1990 that they have been blanked in consecutive games - and have not scored a run in the last 24 innings.
Faught allowed just a single up the middle to Brandon Isbell in the second as he fanned 10 and walked just two to earn the win and improve to 3-4.
Hyung Cho collected three hits and drove in two runs for the first-place Cougars (18-18, 10-1). Michael Bourn added three of UH's 12 hits, while Chris Snyder collected a pair of hits and RBI.
The Cougars scored just once in the second inning as Cho doubled just inside the third base bag and plated Sam Mitchell from first base.
UH, which took advantage of five Blazer errors on the afternoon, then scored in its final three innings, getting three in the sixth, fourth in the seventh and one more in the eighth to pull away in the game.
UAB starter Joe McRae (1-2) tossed 5 2/3 innings and scattered seven hits while allowing four runs (one earned) on two walks and two strikeouts to suffer the loss.
