New Mexico Downs UAB In WNIT

UAB's season ends with a 20-11 record. New Mexico will host either Hawaii or Oklahoma State in the semi-finals.
The Lobos, playing in front of a loud home crowd of 6,796, shot 56 percent in the second half and held UAB to 28 percent shooting. For the game UNM shot 50 percent and the Lady Blazers shot 34.5 percent.
New Mexico quickly turned an eight-point, 34-36 halftime advantage to a 14-point advantage with a 6-0 run to start the second half. UAB turned the ball over the first three times down court. The Lobos gradually built the lead up to 20-points at 56-36 with 12:27 remaining in the game.
"I'm thought our kids did a great job. They gave it all they had and left it all on the court," Lady Blazer head coach Jeannie Milling. "New Mexico did a great job with its inside and outside game. They connected on their threes and just did a great job. We didn't play as well as we have or can and that is disappointing."
New Mexico outrebounded the Lady Blazers 36-33. New Mexico also had 24 assists on 27 of its baskets and made 7-of-19 from three-point range.
UAB All-American Deanna Jackson did lead the Lady Blazers, but scored just 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds. She made just 5-of-19 shots from the field. Mia Thrash scored 13 points and Shaquetta Rhodes added 10.
Jordan made six-of-nine shots in just 10 minutes in the second half. She made just two-of-eight from the field in the first half in 12 minutes.
Molly McKinnon added 15 points and Chelsea Greer scored 13.
In the first half did not score until a three-pointer by Thrash with 15:47 left in the period. However, the Lobos did not take advantage, leading just 4-3 at that point. The Lady Blazers led at 16-15 with 8:46 remaining. UNM took the lead on a basket by Grear and UAB never led again.
