UAB VS. SOUTH FLORIDA COACHES' QUOTES

Feb. 21, 2001
UAB Head Coach Murry Bartow
"We didn't play well. I thought we were ready to play. We worked hard
yesterday on the one-three-one. South Florida just whipped us. That's all
you can really say. They played better. Altron Jackson and B.B. Waldon
are two of the best players in the league. They are very athletic. Their
one-three-one gave us a lot of trouble. We got off to a good start and had
a chance to go up eight or nine. We just got whipped in every phase of the
game. They whipped us on the glass, their zone hurt us, we shoot 30%, we
go to the line 17 times and make five, we miss layups. Obviously, we are a
little bit better team than that. We still think we've got a few wins left
in us. I thought the last minute of the first half was critical. A seven
or eight point game turned into a 20 point game."
South Florida Head Coach Seth Greenberg
"That's as purposeful as we've played for 20 minutes since we've been here.
We shared the ball, we were so active in the one-three-one, we rebounded
the ball ? we probably rebounded the ball better after the first four
minutes and excluding the last four minutes. We were unbelievably
unselfish, so many people got involved. It's not like we had one guy just
score it for us. We rebounded, we defended, we shared the ball, we took
care of the basketball until the end when we turned it over some. That's a
good win against a team that's been playing everyone so well and that's got
to give us confidence. Again, a road win, defending, sharing the ball,
getting a lot of guys minutes, all those things are good. Everyone gave us
good minutes. Artha Reeves, just having him on the court with his quickness
is huge. Sam Sanders was excellent, Reggie Kohn did a good job. Will
McDonald gave us good minutes. I'm just real pleased, it was a total team
win. I challenged our guards to get over 20 rebounds. Altron Jackson had
six, Cedric Smith had 10, Sam Sanders had six, so that's 22, we met our
goal. And that's the key. Of course we are not a great rebounding team, we
need other people to help. It's nice to get healthier, its nice to have a
lot of guys contribute. It is nice to see smiles on our faces. It's nice to
get nine conference wins, the most since we've been here. It's nice to get
number 17, and with a bunch of games to go, hopefully we can build on it."
On the 39-6 run:
"It was just one of those nights, that's what I told Murry. I'm not sure
that we were great or they were bad, its just one of those nights. It is
going to happen. It happens to all of us and tonight was our night. Tonight
we did the things we needed to do to win."
