McDowell Finishes Second As Men's Golf Finishes Eighth

Sophomore Graeme McDowell of the UAB men's golf team finished tied for second place at the Beau Chene Collegiate Classic hosted by Southeastern Louisiana. After rounds of 74-70 in the opening two rounds, McDowell came on strong during the final round firing a five-under par 67 (211) on the par-72 Beau Chene Country Club. McDowell's final round 67 was low score on the day.
Braxton Wynns of Campbell fired rounds of 67-72-71/210 to take the title finishing one stroke ahead of McDowell, Adrien Mork of McNeese and first day leader Jacques Chevallier of host SLU.
SLU ran away with the team title finishing at 854, eight strokes ahead of Ole Miss. The Blazers finished the tournament at 876, moving them up one spot from their opening round ninth place position to eighth.
Daniel Ozley was next in line for the Blazers finishing tied for 30th place. After struggling with opening rounds of 73 and 78, the Blazer sophomore made a charge in the final round shooting a two-under par 70 to finish with 221 for the 54-hole event.
Junior Payton Osborn finished the tournament tied for 35th place (223), while junior Craig Gordon finished tied for 48th (226) after shooting a final round 76. Freshman Chris Cousins rounded out the Blazer line-up with a 232 that placed him in a tie for 63rd spot.
The Blazers will take a couple of weeks off before returning to competition at the Seminole Collegiate Mar. 12-14 in Tallahassee, Fla.
