UAB's Stewart Receives Academic Honor

UAB punter Ross Stewart was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America/District IV Football Team on Nov. 15.
A redshirt junior from Blountsville, Ala., Stewart is a finance major with a 3.47 grade point average and has earned numerous academic honors during his UAB career, including presidential honors (4.0 GPA) in four of his last five academic terms. He is also a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, and has been named to the UAB Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll in all of his terms at UAB (1998- ).
Stewart's season average is currently 42.56 yards per punt, good enough to rank him 32nd nationally. He has been ranked as high as fourth in the nation this season.
Stewart had a career-high 11 punts for 47 yards at Memphis (Oct. 27) -- both UAB single-game records. Stewart also had a great game earlier this season at Florida State (Sept. 8), he punted six times for 285 yards (a 47.5 average), and had a long kick of 68 yards -- a personal best.
Stewart will appear on the national ballot for Verizon Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Dec. 10.
