MACON, Ga. - The UAB women's soccer team scored two goals to defeat Mercer 2-0 Sunday afternoon, as goalkeeper Lisa Nowoslawski earned her fifth shutout of the season.
UAB (9-8 overall, 6-3 C-USA) tallied 19 shots on the day with the two crucial shots coming from senior forward Denise Peters and freshman defender Suzanna LaMotte. Peters scored what proved to be the game-winner just six minutes into the match after she had the ball near the end-line and hooked her shot into the goal.
LaMotte came out firing in the second half, scoring just two minutes in off an assist from Peters.
Nowoslawski combined with goalkeeper Janet Lemke for the shutout and improved her record to 9-8 on the season.
The Blazers will take most of the week off before returning to action Friday when they travel to Tampa, Fla. to take on the South Florida Bulls in C-USA action. The match will be the last one of the regular season for the Blazers as kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
