BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's soccer team will host Memphis in Conference USA action Friday night at West Campus Field. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
Memphis (4-11-1, 2-6 C-USA) comes into Friday night's game off a 1-0 win over TCU last weekend. With only two conference games remaining in the regular season for both teams, Friday's match up is important for the Blazers who are fighting to qualify for the eight-team field of the C-USA tournament in Nov.
For the Blazers, ranked sixth in C-USA with a 5-3 record, the remaining two conference games and one non-conference game are key in landing them a good seed in the tournament. UAB comes into Friday's match with momentum after coming on strong late in the season with five wins in their last seven games.
On Oct. 4, the Blazers started a winning streak that would last five games, including four against C-USA teams. The winning streak is the second longest in the programs short six-year history behind a seven game winning streak during the 1996 season.
Despite a recent 1-0 loss to Vanderbilt, the Blazers look to bounce back with a win over Memphis on Friday.
As the regular season winds down, UAB will look to dominate its last three games of the season before entering the conference tournament. Sunday, the Blazers travel to Macon, Ga. to take on Mercer in a non-conference match and then finish the regular season a C-USA matc up at South Florida on Nov. 2.
