BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Graeme McDowell of the UAB men's golf team fired a four-under-par 138 (68-70), only two strokes behind individual tournament leader and third-ranked Bill Haas of Wake Forest, to tie for second as an individual after two rounds of play at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at Old Overton Golf Course.
The 15th-ranked Blazers are in ninth place as a team after two rounds of play, shooting 584 (294-290).
Sixth-ranked Wake Forest leads the tournament (279-276=555), No. 10 Oklahoma (286-280=566) and No. 2 Arizona (281-285=566) are tied for second, No. 9 Clemson is fourth (282-285=567) and fifth-ranked Georgia Tech rounds out the top five (289-280=569).
Final round play begins tomorrow.
