Men's and Women's Soccer Host Friday Night Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's and women's soccer teams will play a Friday night doubleheader at West Campus Field. The women will play Houston at 5:30 p.m., while the eighth-ranked men will host Louisville at 7:30 p.m.
The UAB men's team has won its last four games and are 8-1 overall and 3-0 in C-USA play. The Blazers are coming off a 2-0 win over Alabama A&M and a 3-0 victory over ninth-ranked South Florida. Freshman goalie Clint Baumstark (Thornton, Col.) and senior forward Martin Rey (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned C-USA Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 7.
Rey leads the men with seven goals and 16 points. The forward has moved up to second in C-USA in goals per game with a 0.78 average. Rey has also moved up to seventh on the all-time goals list and the all-time points list in school history.
Baumstark leads all C-USA goalkeepers in goals against average at 0.43. The freshman has recorded six shutouts to equal the third most in a season for UAB. Baumstark has 36 saves and just four goals, a .900 save percentage.
The UAB women's team is 4-6 overall and 2-2 in Conference USA play. The Blazers are on a two-game winning streak and look to add to it against the struggling 2-7-1 Houston Cougars. UAB recently defeated Louisville 3-0 and Birmingham-Southern 3-0. Junior Goalkeeper Lisa Nowoslawski ( Melbourne, Fla.) garnered both shutouts earning her C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 7.
Freshman forward Tara Kidwell (Leesburg, Va.) and junior forward Adrienne Suffridge (Columbia, S.C.) lead the women with 10 points each. Senior defender Bridget Winston (Dallas, Texas) and Kidwell each have four goals.
Both teams play again on Sunday in an afternoon doubleheader. The women host TCU at 1:00 p.m. and the men take on 13th-ranked Furman at 3:00 p.m.
