Vanderbilt Defeats UAB Women's Soccer 4-1

Laura Hershenow collected two goals to ruin the home finale for UAB to lead Vanderbilt to a 4-1 women's soccer victory here Tuesday night at West Campus Field.
With the game tied at 1-all, Hershenow struck a long goal from 25 yards out which proved to be the go-ahead winner just prior to halftime at the 38:08 mark.
Birmingham native Jennifer Lewis gave the Commodores (8-7) an early lead just 3:33 into the match by scoring on a rebound in front of the goal. Lewis also was credited with an assist on Hershenow's first goal.
UAB's Bridget Winston tied the game at 35:32 by punched her first goal of the past Vandy keeper Stacee Sproul, who had trouble controlling the ball in the penalty box.
Kat Carroll widened the Commodore gap with a long goal at the 51:56 mark and Hershenow completed the scoring 17 minutes later on an unassisted blast from 15 yards away.
The loss ruined senior night for UAB (3-11-2) as it was the last home match for Jen Braly (Denver, Colo.), Lisa Davies (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia), Katja Lerew (Wichita Falls, Texas), Kerri Sparks (Birmingham, Ala.), Christene Tran (Mesquite, Texas) and Jenny Woodward (Dallas, Texas).
