Junior Denise Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) scored two goals to lead UAB to a 4-0 shutout Conference USA victory over Memphis at West Campus Field here Friday night.
The win snapped a five-match losing streak for the Blazers (2-9-2 overall, 1-5-1 in C-USA), while UM (6-7-0, 2-5-0) lost for the second straight outing.
Peters scored the game's first goal at the 32:33 mark as she pounded the ball in the back of the net with a straight on shot five yards away from Katja Lerew.
After leading 1-0 at the half, the Blazers increased their lead with another goal right in front of the goal, this time coming from Adrienne Suffridge at 48:07.
Peters then grabbed her second goal on a breakaway off a stellar open pass from Suffridge to beat the Tiger keeper Katarina Wicksell in the top of the net just seven minutes later.
Jill Knottek added her UAB-high third goal of the season at the 64:12 mark.
The Blazers return to action next Friday at home when they take on C-USA foe Cincinnati at 7 p.m. at West Campus Field.
