UAB scored three times in the final 20 minutes to record a 3-1 come-from-behind Conference USA victory over Louisville in women's soccer action here Sunday afternoon at West Campus Field.
Down 1-0, junior Denise Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) tied the game with a great individual effort down the left sideline and notched a shot past the goalkeeper at 70:03 to tie the score at one.
Freshman Jill Knottek (Midland, Texas) then added the game winner for the Blazers (3-10-2 overall, 2-6-1 in C-USA) at the 85:55 mark by capitalizing on a loose ball in front of the goal. UAB added an insurance goal at 88:57 as former Grissom High School teammates sophomore Cindy Penaranda (Huntsville, Ala.) hit Stephanie Davis (Huntsville, Ala.), who buried an insurance goal from 15 yards out and just 1:03 left in the contest.
UAB collected more shots than the Cardinals (1-14-1, 0-9-0), recording 25 to the visitor's six.
Brianne Tieff of Louisville notched the game's first goal on a long blast that got over UAB keeper Lisa Nowoslawski's head for the Cardinals only goal. Nowoslawski did notch three saves in the contest.
The Blazers return to action for their final home game of the 2000 season Tuesday when they play out of conference against Vanderbilt. Match time is 7 p.m. at West Campus Field. Tuesday's match will be Senior Night, as well as High School Night, with the loudest group from one high school to receive a valuable prize during the match.
