(USM wins 33-30 in 2 OT * Legion Field, Birmingham, Ala.)
- UAB played its fourth overtime game in its history and its first this season ... it also marked the third time in the last two seasons the Blazers have gone into overtime...overall UAB is 2-2 in games decided in extra periods (and 0-2 all-time in overtime games at Legion Field, .the Blazers lost to Kansas is four overtimes at Legion Field in 1998).
- UAB special teams scored points again in the Southern Miss game....late in the third quarter, USM punter Mark Haulman's attempt from his own end zone was blocked by Blazer safety Avery Warner and recovered for a touchdown by running back Percy Coleman....it was the second blocked punt for a touchdown of the 2000 season for UAB (the other was blocked and returned by special teams co-captain Andrew Kopecky vs. Louisiana-Lafayette on Sep. 30).....it was the third special teams touchdown for the Blazers this year, the Blazers forced a fumble on a punt play vs. Kansas and cornerback Patrick Burchfield returned the ball 42 yards for a score....UAB has blocked four kicks this season (2 punts, 2 field goals).
- It was not the first time that Avery Warner has been involved in a blocked punt for a touchdown, in last season's Missouri game (9/4/99), Warner blocked a Tiger punt in the first quarter that was returned for a score by Chris Brown.
- UAB running back Jegil Dugger capped an 80-yard first-quarter scoring drive with a nine-yard touchdown run that gave UAB a 7-3 lead...it was UAB's first touchdown in the first quarter since the Louisiana-Lafayette game on Sep. 30.
- Dugger finished the game with 101 yards and a touchdown...it was the fourth 100+-yard game for Dugger this season.
- UAB defensive lineman Marlon Bush saw his first action since the Middle Tennessee game on Oct. 21...Bush has been bothered with knee and ankle injuries and has seen limited action since the LSU game (Sep. 23)....Blazer flanlker Willie Quinnie saw his first action since the Louisville game on Oct. 7 ....Quinnie has been bothered all season by a knee injury suffered in the season-opener vs. Chattanooga (Sep. 7)...Quinnie had an outstanding performance, with six receptions for 88 yards.
- UAB cornerback Chris Brown made his third interception of the season in the first half...Brown also had picks vs. Kansas and LSU.
- UAB senior Daniel Dixon is better known as a quarterback, but he is also an experienced punter....Dixon punted for the first time since the 1998 season in the second quarter vs. Southern Miss, a 32-yarder that wound up as a fair catch at the Golden Eagle 10-yardline.
- UAB's Rhett Gallego broke the Blazer single-season mark with his 16th field goal of the year, a 20-yarder in the fourth quarter...the mark was previously held by Kevin Thomason (1993).... earlier in the game, Gallego made a 29-yarder and missed a second attempt from 32 yards (both in the third quarter) .... Gallego added his 17th of the season on a 37-yarder in the second overtime.
- UAB ends the 2000 regular season with a Conference USA game at Army. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm EST at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y.
