(USM 33, UAB 30 - 2OT * Legion Field * Birmingham, Ala.)
Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower:
"I'm really proud of my players. I got to give UAB a lot of credit, they played hard and they played really well. It's almost a shame somebody has to lose that one as fun as it was and as good as it was for a long time but I'm proud of our players and proud of us for making the plays that we made and winning the football game, we needed that."
On the last play to get the game winning touchdown:
"It was a hide play you know and they actually tried the same thing on us earlier in the game not with necessarily the same receiver because that's the one they called interference on us."
Quarterback Jeff Kelly
On the last drive to tie the game up:
"We turned it on there at the end of the game, you just have to be ready whenever you have the ball to step up and make some good plays."
UAB Head Coach Watson Brown:
"I am disappointed for our guys because they have play really hard today. Southern Miss made one more play than we did, and that was the difference in the game. These are the tougher times for us. You would like to give the players something for their efforts. There is no way to feel good about this. I am very proud. You can only learn from something like this. Give Southern Miss some credit."
On the defensive delay of game penalty occurring during the end of the game:
"There is a new rule that if you jump on your defense on the line of scrimmage it is five yard penalty against you. Their snap count made our guy just jump a little bit. He did not jump into the line of scrimmage. To call that call at the point during that game was amazing to me."
Quarterback Jeff Aaron's
Thoughts on the game:
"I am proud of the game even though we did not win. It was a great football game that was played on that field. The fans got a good look at the game. It was just two good football teams going at it. I think I did what I had to do. I just tried to make every play that I had to play."
Running Back Jegil Dugger
on his performance:
"My goal during the game today was to see if I could run against this team today. I heard that they were a good defense. I feel like a played hard. I got banged up and bruised up but that is part of the game. The coach from Southern Miss tried to recruit me but I came here instead that it meant allot to me that he commented about me."
Linebacker Adrian Abrams
on the last play of the second overtime:
"It was not a blown coverage. It was a great play call. We had been running a zone front side and a man to man back side during the game and they had seen that if they flared the back out that we were picking them up. So they knew we were a quick defense that pursued hard and the man slipped out back side and it was a great play call. I think that the defense played good game."
