HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Jenny Woodward and Katja Lerew erased an early deficit as each got first-half goals for UAB, but Southern Mississippi collected two goals in the final half to lift the Lady Eagles to a 3-2 Conference USA women's soccer victory here Friday afternoon.
Lindsey Canham notched a pair of goals for USM, including the game's first at the 10:03 mark, followed by the game-tying score just after the start of the second half. Leila Reynolds collected the game winner for USM (4-5-0 overall, 2-3-0 in Conference USA) in the 68th minute.
Woodward and Lerew each notched their first goals of the season for the Blazers. Woodward evened the score at 1-all at the 24:17 mark and Lerew collected paydirt just over seven minutes later to give UAB the lead for the remainder of the opening half.
UAB (1-8-2, 0-4-1) returns to action Sunday when they face Tulane in a 1 p.m. match in New Orleans.
