Ryan Greenwood enters his first season with UAB Softball as an assistant coach in 2027, reuniting with head coach Megan Curry after previously serving on Curry's staff at Samford.
Greenwood brings more than 20 years of experience in elite travel softball, player development and recruiting. Throughout his career, he has helped more than 100 student-athletes advance to NCAA Division I programs, with former players earning All-America and all-conference honors.
Greenwood spent the 2026 season as Samford's director of player development before joining the Austin Peay coaching staff as an assistant coach in June.
Prior to his time at Samford, Greenwood served as the 18U national head coach and recruiting coordinator for Fusion Softball from 2020-25. He also served as the organization's national director from 2024-25.
From 2023-25, Greenwood served as an assistant coach and player development coach at Assumption High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He helped lead the program to the 2025 KHSAA State Championship, the first state title in school history, after the team advanced to the state semifinals in 2024.
Greenwood spent more than a decade with the Birmingham Thunderbolts from 2009-20, serving as a premier head coach and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure, his teams competed in some of the nation's top travel softball events, including PGF Nationals and Triple Crown tournaments.
He has also served as an instructor at LSU softball camps.
Greenwood earned his bachelor's degree in computer information systems and marketing from Jacksonville State University in 1993.
