BIO: Pien Grooters, a 6-1 blocker from Hengelo, Overijssel, The Netherlands, attended Montessori College Twente. She chose UAB because of the strong team culture, competitiveness and the university’s medical academic programs. Grooters was selected to the Regional Talent Center Almelo from 2017–20 and represented the Netherlands Beach Team during the Hague season in 2021–22. She made her Eredivisie Beach debut on June 17, 2023. Her junior beach volleyball results include a share of first place in the U17 Netherlands championship in 2020, third place in U17 in 2021, third place in U19 in 2022 and second place in U21 in 2023. Grooters also played indoor volleyball and was a Regional Training Borne selection during the 2016–17 season. She was selected to the World Championship Schools team in 2020 and helped lead her indoor team to Region East championships in 2018–19 and 2019–20, as well as a third-place finish in 2021–22. She made her Eredivisie indoor debut on March 5, 2022 and helped her team capture the Twente Cup in 2023. She has been playing beach volleyball for 10 years.
