Dunson Digs
- Entering third season as an assistant coach and 10th overall season in coaching.
- Dunson is the academic liaison while overseeing recruiting, on the court coaching, scouting, player development, primary with the post players.
- This past season UAB finished with a 20-11 record, the second straight season with at least 20 wins since Dunson arrived in Birmingham
- UAB were nationally ranked in the top 50 in 10 different categories in NCAA Division I basketball.
- The team finished with a 3.58 GPA for the spring 2020 semester
- For two seasons, served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2016-18.
- Helped the Cougars to a back to back Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearances
- The Cougars made the (WBI) Women’s Basketball Invitational Post-season tournament (2nd time in School History while Division I)
- Worked with post and guard skill development and guided three Ohio Valley All-Conference players
- Helped guided Donshel Beck to the OVC 1st team All-Conference Selection. Donshel is only 1 of 3 players to score over 1400 points and grabbed 800 rebounds in career. She ranks top 20 in 4 categories in school history: points, rebounds, steals, and assists.
- Dunson also guided guards Lauren White 2nd team OVC All-Conference, Nakiah Bell OVC All Newcomer team, and developed Sydney Bauman that holds the SIUE all-time leading block record.
- From 2014-16, Served as the Director of Operations for the men’s and women’s basketball team at Western Illinois University.
- WIU made back to back Summit League tournament appearances, while the Leathernecks won their first post-season win in program history in the (WBI) Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament.
- Worked for one season as an assistant coach at Wabash Valley College in 2013, while helping the Warriors to the NJCAA Region tournament quarterfinals and two GRAC All-Conference selections
- From 2011-13, was a varsity assistant basketball coach at Bloomington High School (Ill.), In those two seasons helped turned a program from a 3 win season to an 18 win season the following year.
Playing Career
Dunson started his collegiate career at Iowa State University where he ranks fourth all-time for most 3-pointers made by a freshman. He later transferred to Vincennes University for one season helping the Trailblazers to a 28-6 record. He was named MVP of the National Junior College Associate of American District 3 Tournament and led the team to a 2008 NJCAA National Tournament appearance.
He finished his career at Bradley University, 2009 Dunson lead the Braves to the College Insider Post Season Tournament (CIT) Championship finishing the season 21-15 overall. By his senior year was voted a first team member of the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, was a Lowe’s Senior CLASS 2nd team All-American and a member of the Illinois Kappa Chapter of the National Athlete Honors Society (Chi Alpha Sigma).
Personal
Dunson graduated from Bradley University in 2011 with his undergraduate degree in social work with magna cum laude honors. Also earned his master’s degree in 2017 from SIU Edwardsville in physical education with an emphasis in coaching pedagogy.
Dunson married his wife Tameka in 2015. The couple resides in Hoover, Ala.
