Martell enters his second year at UAB in the 2020 season. Prior to UAB, Martell served as an assistant coach at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. While at Tyler, Martell was instrumental in leading the Apaches men’s and women’s teams to the 2018 NJCAA National Championships. During the 2018 season, Martell was named NJCAA Region XIV Assistant Coach of the Year and was the runner-up for the national award. As a player, Martell led Tyler to the 2013 NJCAA National Championship, while also winning the individual singles flight. Martell was honored as an NJCAA All-American for the season. After transferring to UAB, he helped the team into the national rankings in two of his three seasons. In 2016, Martell’s senior season, he was named First-Team All-Conference USA.
