Michael Helms joined the UAB men’s tennis program in the fall of 2022 as a volunteer assistant and was promoted to the assistant coach in the spring of 2023.
Prior to UAB, Michael a USPTA Certified Tennis Professional has spent more than 15 years teaching and coaching a variety of players from beginners to college developing them to reach their full potential in the sport. He teaches part-time at the Southern Tennis Academy in Birmingham, AL. Michael is a 2001 business marketing graduate of Jacksonville State University where he was an all-conference baseball player. Coach Helms resides in Vestavia Hills, AL with his wife Amanda of more than 20 years. They have 3 children, Brayden, Caroline and Madelyn.
