Vincent enters his sixth year at UAB and served as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the previous five (2014, 2018-21).
Since 2018, Vincent has helped lead the Blazers to two Conference USA Championships and two bowl game victories. UAB has been the winningest team in Conference USA since returning to the playing field and has collected 35 wins since Vincent returned as OC.
In 2018, the Blazers had their best offensive season in program history which resulted in 21 school records, including an 11-3 overall record and winning the program’s first Conference USA title and bowl game.
Among the school records that fell in 2018 included total points (418), total touchdowns (53), rushing touchdowns (32), total yards (5,680) and rushing yards (2,818). Additionally, UAB set the single game school record for total yards (668) and rushing yards (419) in a 52-3 victory over UTSA on Nov. 3, 2018.
This past season in 2021, the Blazers put up the sixth most total yards in school history (5,024), the sixth most rushing yards (2,342) and the third most points (384). UAB capped its season with 412 total yards and 31 points in a 31-28 victory over No. 13 BYU in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, marking the highest ranked victory in school history.
Leading the offense were four standouts who put up some of the best numbers in the nation in quarterback Dylan Hopkins, running back DeWayne McBride, wide receiver Trea Shropshire and tight end Gerrit Prince.
Hopkins finished as the nation’s eighth most efficient passer (166.6) and posted the school’s second highest single season completion percentage (66.0). McBride ran for the third most yards in a single season (1,371) and the second most rushing touchdowns (13), while ranking fifth nationally in yards per carry (6.72). Shropshire led the entire nation in yards per reception (26.04), finishing the year with 27 catches for 703 yards and seven touchdowns. Prince had 36 catches for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 10 touchdowns were the fourth most in a season at UAB and he led all tight ends nationally at 19.42 yards per catch.
Prior to 2021, Bryant guided running back Spencer Brown to UAB supremacy as Brown became the Blazers’ all-time leading rusher during his junior year in 2019. Vincent also led Brown to the single season rushing touchdown record in 2018 as Brown rushed for 16 touchdowns as a sophomore. He broke the individual record for single season points scored (102) and total touchdowns (17) as well that season.
In 2020, Brown finished the season as the nation’s second active career leading rusher and was only one of two players to have 4,000+ career rushing yards at the end of the year. He finished his career as the school record holder in career rushing yards (4,011), rushing touchdowns (41), total touchdowns (42) and career 100-yard games (19).
Under Vincent’s watch in 2019, wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr. had one of the best individual seasons for a wideout in school history, finishing the year with 57 catches for 1,092 yards. Watkins Jr. became just the third player in school history to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a season, joining Roddy White and Derrick Ingram. In 2020, Watkins Jr. finished his career ranking seventh at UAB in career receiving yards with 1,642 yards and eighth in career receptions (98).
Vincent also oversaw the development of quarterback Tyler Johnston III, who threw 4,837 yards and 37 touchdowns. Johnston III started five games down the stretch of the 2018 season and threw for 1,275 yards and 11 touchdowns in those starts. Johnston threw for 306 yards at Texas A&M and a career-high 373 yards and four touchdowns in UAB’s 37-13 Boca Raton Bowl victory over Northern Illinois. In the 2020 C-USA Championship game, Johnston threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns.
During UAB’s second championship season in 2020, the Blazers averaged 401.3 yards per game of total offense and scored 28.4 points per game. The offensive line of UAB had a tremendous season. The Blazers averaged 200.0 yards of rushing offense and only allowed four sacks all season. UAB was also very efficient in the red zone. Having made 36 trips to the red zone, the Blazers converted that into points on 33 occasions. Of the 33 scores, 13 were rushing touchdowns, 11 passing touchdowns, and nine field goals. The Green and Gold finished 2020 ranked 10th nationally in red zone offense (.917).
Vincent has led UAB to all of these school records after establishing them when he was the offensive coordinator for the Blazers in 2014. His offensive in 2014 set the school records for total offensive yards (5,182), total points (398) and points per game (33.2), before the total points and total yards records were broken in 2018.
Under Vincent's direction in 2014, he guided an offense that gained 2,637 yards through the air and 2,545 yards on the ground while scoring more than 30 points in seven games and more than 40 points in five games.
In his offense, running back Jordan Howard set the UAB single season rushing record with 1,587 yards, and starting quarterback Cody Clements completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,227 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Prior to his return to UAB, Vincent spent 2015 and 2016 as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of South Alabama. He also worked for the Jags from 2011-13 as an assistant coach before joining UAB in 2014.
Vincent helped guide the Jaguars to the 2016 Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl led by record setting quarterback Dallas Davis. In Vincent's offense, Davis threw for the most yards in school history (2,706) and his 2,951 total yards of offense are second most in program history.
Prior to coaching in the college ranks, Vincent was a very successful high school coach who compiled an overall head coaching record of 49-16 and won a State Championship at Spanish Fort in 2010. In his one season at Greenville High School in 2006, he was 10-3 overall and was named the 5A State Coach of the Year.
