Jerome Maye

Jerome Maye joined the UAB Athletic Performance staff as an Athletic Performance Fellow in June 2021. He has had a plethora of experience at both the professional and collegiate levels as well as international.
Football Experience:
Maye’s first position was with the Cleveland Browns. From 2006-2011 he voluntarily assisted with the Browns' scouting department during the practice week of the Senior Bowl. He worked the Phil Savage Youth Football Camps who was the Browns general manager from 2005-2008.
In 2009, Maye returned to his alma mater for two seasons, starting as a recruiting assistant and offensive assistant before being elevated to a strength and conditioning assistant coach. He also served as an offensive assistant coach working with the Tide wide receivers. Maye was part of the 2009 National Championship team that defeated Texas 37-21 in the Rose Bowl. Additionally, he assistied the UA offensive coaches at the Nick Saban Football Camps as well as assisting players with scouting reports and daily practice drills.
In 2012, Maye worked at the Senior Bowl where he was intern to the executive assistants. He was responsible for creating the 350 player Watch List and the PNC Senior Bowl Family Fun Day Community Event. Additionally, May coached the NFL High School Player Development football camp.
Maye served as South Alabama’s Football Strength and conditioning Intern coach in 2014. He created sports performance and sports nutrition programs in his time with the Jaguars. He also assisted with the, softball and men’s tennis teams.
Basketball Experience:
Maye started his basketball experience overseas with Asseco Prokom - a professional team based in Gdynia, Poland and an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
In 2010, he worked with Alabama’s women’s basketball team as a graduate assistant/video coordinator. He helped the coaches arrange and run practice drills, set up film exchange and recorded shooting charts.
During the summers of 2011 and 2013, Maye was a Volunteer Player Development Assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He assisted the development coaches with drill set up, player shooting workouts and player analysis and shooting development.
The following year at South Alabama, Maye served as assistant strength coach and played development. He was solely responsible for maintaining the weight room, as well as providing sports performance and sports nutrition programs.
Other experience:
Currently, Maye is training current UAB volunteer assistant Casey Ratzlaff. Currently ranked No. 28 in the Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour Rankings, Ratzlaff is the highest ranked American in the poll and was a participant in the 2020 Paralympic Games held in Toyko.
Maye served as a strength intern at Georgia Tech in 2019, working with the Yellow Jackets’ baseball team. He led training sessions with the Tech pitchers.
He also was the head strength coach for South Alabama’s track & field teams. Under his leadership, both the Jaguars men's and women’s outdoor track teams finished in second place in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, which was one of of the best finishes in program history for both teams. In all, 14 South Alabama student-athletes earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Additionally, Maye volunteered as an assistant coach with the Brisbane Bullets in Brisbane, Australia and was a basketball coach Cottage Hill Christian Academy and coached both football and basketball at Saint Paul’s Episcopal School – both in Mobile.
Education:
Maye is a two-time graduate of the University of Alabama. In December 2008, he earned his bachelor’s in consumer science and received his master’s degree in May 2013, also in consumer science. Maye is certified as a CSCS (Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist) by the NSCA (National Strength Conditioning Association).
