UAB Performance Nutrition Internship

Internship Terms
Fall, Spring, or Summer Semester (Internship dates coincide with most semester long programs.)
Internship Description
Internship responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assisting the UAB Sports Dietitian with:
- Food preparation
- Nutrition education presentations
- Diet analysis using nutrition software
- Nutrition education material development
- Social media management
- Attend various home pre-game and post-game meals as needed
- Individual fueling recommendations based on sport, training intensity, goals, and food allergies/intolerances
- Individual Nutrition Counseling
- Body Composition Assessment
- Monitoring of student-athlete hydration
- Development of travel and competition menu planning
- Grocery store tours
- Complete handouts on several position papers before beginning
- Attend weekly nutrition journal club meetings
- Complete readings and assignments based on Advanced Sports Nutrition by Dr. Dan Benardot
Qualifications
- A strong desire to pursue a career in the field of Sports Nutrition.
- Applicants are preferred to be working towards completion of a degree in nutrition or exercise science.
- Competent in coursework relating to the field of nutrition and athletic performance.
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Hard-working and professional.
- Must possess a desire to learn.
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship.
Duration
Interns are expected to stay for the entire duration of the internship (semester) unless other arrangements have been made.
