Jay D’Abramo is in his second year as the Associate Athletics Communications Director at UAB.
A native of Starkville, Miss., D’Abramo brings a widespread background in athletics communications, having served most recently as an Associate Athletic Communications Director at USC Upstate. While in Spartanburg, S.C., D’Abramo served as the primary athletic communications contact for a men’s basketball program that received national attention following two postseason berths and a combined four wins over the ACC and SEC. In addition, he was also the primary contact for baseball, women’s soccer, women’s tennis and men’s tennis.
D’Abramo’s career in athletic communications began in 2005-06 when he worked as a Sports Information Intern at UNC Greensboro, serving as the primary contact for women’s soccer, wrestling and baseball. The following year, D’Abramo served as an Athletic Communications Assistant at the University of Connecticut and was the primary contact for women’s soccer, men’s hockey, men’s track and field and baseball.
Following his two internships, D’Abramo worked as an Assistant Media Relations Director at the University of Mississippi from 2007-2010, serving as the primary spokesperson for women’s basketball, cross country and track and field. He was also the Assistant Media Relations Director at Coastal Carolina University from 2010-11 and worked as the primary media relations contact for the men’s basketball team that featured the nation’s longest winning streak at 22 games. In addition, he was also the primary contact for men’s soccer, women’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis.
D’Abramo is a 2005 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in communication, majoring in journalism and minoring in public relations. He returned to Mississippi State and earned a master’s degree in 2013 in sport administration while working part-time in the Mississippi State Media Relations Office.
