Bobblehead Giveaways Highlight 25th Anniversary Promotional Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB athletic department has planned numerous promotions and giveaways for its 2003-04 home men's basketball schedule, highlighted by four "bobblehead doll" giveaways featuring Blazer standouts from years past, as well as former UAB head coach and director of athletics Gene Bartow.
The promotional schedule, which tips off at this Saturday's game vs. Alabama A&M with a halftime performance by the "Extreme Team" slam dunk exhibition, will feature bobblehead giveaways at four games starting next month to the first 1,500 fans, 13 years of age and older
The first bobblehead to be offered will be that of former Blazer Oliver Robinson at the Jan. 31 contest vs. Saint Louis. Two weeks later when UAB plays host to East Carolina, it will be Steve Mitchell Bobblehead Night. At the February 28 game when the Blazers entertain 2003 Final Four participant Marquette, the bobblehead likeness of Coach Bartow, the man who built the UAB program, will be given to the first 1,500 fans, 13 and older, entering the arena. And finally for the regular season finale on March 6 when TCU visits Bartow Arena, it will be Jerome Mincy Bobblehead Day.
In addition to the bobbleheads, the Blazers are planning several other promotions over the course of the season. The Jan. 3 contest vs. South Alabama will feature a 25th Anniversary Lapel Pin to the first 5,000 fans as the Blazers celebrate their first 25 years of athletics this year. When UAB plays host to Cincinnati on Feb. 18, the first 5,000 fans will receive a Blazer "Rally Rag."
"We are excited about this year's promotional schedule and feel the bobblehead giveaways will be a popular addition as we recognize the history and tradition of UAB basketball that has been established in the first 25 years of the program," said Bobby Staub, UAB Senior Associate AD. "We have included some other special promotions that our fans will enjoy when they come out to see the Blazers this season."

Saturday, Dec. 20 vs. Alabama A&M, 7:30 p.m. - "The Extreme Team", a slam dunk exhibition unit, will perform at halftime and "Magic City Harvest Food Drive". A canned food donation will provide an opportunity to buy up to four general admission tickets for $5.00 each

Tuesday, Dec. 30 vs. Marshall, 7:30 p.m. - "25-Cent" Hot Dog Night and "Kids Night Out" (kids get in free with the purchase of an adult admission)
